I’m currently watching the second season of Penny Dreadful. I absolutely adore Vanessa’s storyline through these two seasons and also adore Frankenstein’s storyline with his creatures and the depictions of them and surprises, light and dark. And the poetry, lyricism and philosophy they all hold. I really love the way this show conveys the weight of guilt. It brings a visceral depth. There’s a realness to the slowness of developments, of things ongoing affecting the characters continually, it’s real and not forced or exaggerated. Which speaks greatly to the actors talents as well as the writing.

I especially love the way Vanessa’s fight is conveyed, throughout but particularly in S1 episode 8. Fighting the darkness with everything, while loving the darkness, while being the darkness. This is also true of Jon Clare, thinking himself much darker than he is but also having the darkness, but then so outmatched by Lily’s darkness. Also Lily’s entire deception, especially her outburst with Jon Clare, a schizophrenic burst from one extreme to another and yet entirely believable and poignant.

Everyones pain and guilt and sorrow in their interactions is done so beautifully. I love the way the characters all meet each other in odd places, forming random yet significant connections to each other. Especially Jon Clare and Vanessa.

I should probably put these in two separate posts, but I’m not. Below is some (rather self-indulgent) talk on the TVD finale and a personal post. Read one, or both, or neither.

Klaus/Stefan:  4.01 – 4.09

There’s a lot of crazy supposition in this, possibly because the stuff that happens is more subtle, possibly because their relationship is moving into a different place and the show doesn’t want to make that explicitly obvious.

4.03

The episode that gave us vampires wearing helmets and the season’s first Klaus/Stefan scene. Klaus mentions to Tyler that he was on the way to Chigago, why? Possibly because it’s the home-land of Klefan and Klaus has a secret shrine he needs to update.

So, Elena is dying from having werewolf venom in her system and Stefan needs Klaus to heal her. This scene is clearly an inversion of the scene where Klaus and Stefan’s journey began in 2x22; Damon had a werewolf bite and Stefan needed Klaus to give him the cure. 3x21 ended that journey, ended that arc with Stefan desiccating Klaus, and this is them beginning again. This is them starting a new journey, from a different place.

I say inversion, not parallel, because even before Klaus enters the scene the contrast is obvious. In 2x22 Stefan goes to seek Klaus out fearing he might not return. Here Stefan phones Klaus, expecting the original to come to him, and willing to nag him until he does. Stefan knows if he calls Klaus will come, he believes this, he’s wondering ‘where the hell are you’, like there’s no question that Klaus would already be there if he was nearby. Even after ‘killing’ Klaus, he still believes Klaus will come, and he’s right because he knows that in a way he still has Klaus wrapped around his little finger. It’s not a big deal, which makes it vastly different from the scene in 2x22, when he was saying goodbye to Elena because he thought Klaus might kill him. Of course everyone’s more familiar with Klaus now, but that doesn’t change the fact that Stefan did just kill him, but he still has no fear.

Episode 5.01 or Merlin finally has a season premier without an army of the undead trying to overthrow Camelot…and replace it with nothing much.

I see animals in fiction and am convinced they’re tvd characters, as is my brain. In other words Klaus and Damon were in this episode in the form of a wolf and a crow.

Here's a meta analysing my top ten Klefan scenes from the second half of season three, hope you enjoy my ramblings. I've wanted to write this for a while, so I'm glad it's finally out of my system. I ended up writing it as a part of a vd_land challenge.

Hello all, I don't usually write about eps as my thoughts are usually a squee-ish mess, but this episode had me a bit confused, so I was wondering about what others thought of the Methodone stuff.
To me it seemed that House as a doctor would've always known it was an option and up until this point had chosen not to take it whereas now -by his own admission- he has been having worse pain days and that was probably why he chose to start taking it as it had gotten so bad. Why would he then suddenly decide to stop taking it, maybe I'm just not understanding this that's why I'm asking for others opinions. I know like Cuddy said House hates change, but that seems more like trying to find a rationale for House not taking it, because if he continued to take it and be happy the show wouldn't retain the same form.

Another thing House was a brilliant doctor for I'm guessing more than a decade before the infarction, so saying he couldn't be great without pain makes even less sense. Also FORETEEN LOVE, they're great, the way they work together is a lovely new aspect to the show, and I'm finally able to enjoy Foreman as a character. Also KUTNER!LOVE, just because, that is the extent of my coherency on the matter.

Isn't procrastination in the form of Livejournal brilliant  :).
