1. Is there anything you never thought you'd like, but then you gave it a shot and loved it?
I usually know what I like and what I don’t, so I can’t think of an activity that has been different to what I thought it would be. But if we’re talking television; The vampire diaries, where watching was purely a feat of; I must watch this before I judge it. Followed ten minutes later by me scouring for preview/sneak peek clips online.
2. Give me a good quote from a book or a fic you just read / are reading right now!
“I spoke to him, and he caught the word as deftly as if I had thrown it. This was the edge of time, between chaos and shape. This was the little bit of evolution that endlessly repeats itself in the young and newborn thing. In this moment there are no cars or aeroplanes. The Sistine Chapel is unpainted, no book has been written. There is the moon, the water, the night, one creature’s need and another’s response. The moment between chaos and shape and I say his name and he hears me.” – The world and other places by Jeanette Winterson.
3. If you could write your own TV show, what would it be about?
It would sort of be Glee with vampires because there needs to be a vampire musical. It would be a magical world where power is created and commanded through sound, and the better the sound the more power there is. But loudness also factors in, but not totally; a finely tuned orchestra would probably trump a solo artist but the solo artist could still trump a cacophony of noise. Yes I’ve come up with an idea with such high production costs as an act of self loathing ;).
Yeah, I have too many ideas for tv shows and all the ideas that aren’t cracky are quite dark and dire.
4. If you were offered a chance to get a hair transplant from anyone of your choosing, whose hair would you steal?
I don’t know, someone with sleek black hair that was like mine but less thick and without the tendency to go Ferrets-trapped-in-a-bush crazy when it’s having one of its mood swings.
5. What was the bane of your (academic) existence when you were in high school?
Design Technology. I have always struggled with the physical action of writing with a pen/pencil but because I always performed reasonably well at school I was deemed okay and it was ignored and I received no help. Which was okay for most classes, I got on with it, took three times longer than everyone else and got stuff done, with a lot of grumping along the way, and a computer which I did all my homework on. But when faced with a class that included producing endless masses of A3 pages full of writing; I went from spending all my time on the class to progressively getting more and more fed up as I got further and further behind and eventually stopped doing any work in lessons entirely. To the point where my benchmark grade (grade I was supposed to be aiming for) was an A and my predicted grade was an F. And my Tech teachers were freaking out because ‘I was making them look bad’. I ended up with a D and was happy with it.
6. If you could turn one person into a frog, who would it be and what would you do with the frog afterwards?
My uncle, I think he would be happier and so would everyone else in the family. Set it free in a frog friendly place. I should probably feel more guilty about that thought than I do.
7. Do you have any words/phrases you overuse?
Balance. Everything is better in balance. I say ‘like’ more than I’d like to.
8. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Coconut. I like big extravagant sundaes with waffles and wafers and tall glasses with whipped cream and chocolate sauce and umbrellas; ideally one scoop coconut, one scoop vanilla, one scoop mint or banana; though I don’t think I’ve ever actually had this combo, I could hate it.
9. Harry Potter or Narnia?
Narnia. I read the first Harry Potter book and never really got into it. In my teens I was more into horror fiction like Stephen King.
10. If someone gave you a time machine and told that you can go to any time and any place for a year, where would you go?
Stephen Fry once said a wonderful thing about how the present moment is always the best, because it holds all the moments that came before it; I really think that’s an awesome point. All the knowledge, all the ideas, all the cultures, and fashion trends, technology and inventions, tv and films and music and art, and history, it’s all there, in existence. All there for the exploring, even if we can’t meet the people, or touch the reality. So really I think I’d want a different experience, so I’d go for the future, beyond my life-time so I can’t tamper with myself. But not too far, maybe one hundred years.
But a year is a long time to spend in a place that’s unknown, and I’m not very adventurous, then again I don’t think the past would be a very friendly place for someone like me; so future it is.
