Sorry about your MIL. Yeah, that's exactly it, understanding the complicated nature of things. It's not straight-forward. If something needs to be held in a certain way, that may be more possible for me than if it needs to be held in a different way, even if the first thing is heavier. Or people will see me carrying a box, but they don't see that it's almost empty and I'm doing like three trips with the box to take everything.
